Freshly made smoothies are one of the best things you can do for your body in the morning in order to kick-start your metabolism (besides exercise or sports, of course!)
Today, I started the morning by swimming laps in the Royal Pool. Now I’m ready to cool down, but I’m nowhere near ready to slow down!
A royal defense
A Green Tea Smoothie will give you energy throughout your day and it’s a breeze to prepare.
For green tea lovers, you’ll be pleased to know that besides tasting delicious, green tea has the ability to protect your cells against cellular damage.
What do we mean by cellular damage? Basically, every day we encounter environmental stressors that can wreak havoc on our bodies and accelerate the aging process.
The natural antioxidants in green tea are like a Royal Army, protecting our cells from damage and disease.
Fortified with Quark
In this smoothie, the powerful green tea is fortified with mighty Quark.
As you know, Quark provides loads of protein plus essential vitamins and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, and complex B vitamins. Quark’s creamy consistency allows it to blend well with fresh fruit and ice.
Tip: You want to use chilled green tea rather than hot. I like to keep a pitcher in the fridge for whenever I have the urge to make a Green Tea Smoothies. I’ve also been known to sip the chilled tea throughout the day for a quick pick me up (I add ice cubes and a twist of lemon).
In the smoothie, the nutty, earthy taste of green tea is sweetened by fruit and honey. The orange, lemon, and grapefruit add a citrusy zest and deliver a big-time dose of vitamin C. Your immune system will thank you for giving it such a delicious boost!
The banana is a terrific source of potassium, plus it thickens the drink to a satisfying degree. If you can, choose a frozen banana over a fresh one. This is because the frozen texture bulks up the Smoothie just enough so it’s drinkable yet filling.
Just sweet enough
The only sweetener is honey (and you can adjust the amount to suit your taste). Not only does the honey flavor balance out the taste of the tea, it’s believed to be rich in antioxidants, which may lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease.
This smoothie is best enjoyed right after it’s blended. I always make a little bit extra for an instant refill because it’s so good!
